Instagram Feed Design Overhaul

A redesign of Something Private Podcast's feed, featuring logo, type, and colour scheme design.

When I first joined Our Grandfather Story (OGS) as their Social Media Lead in 2020, I was also introduced to Something Private Podcast, their in-house podcast for Asian women, exploring everything from wellness, identity, society and love.


Prior to my arrival, no one on the team was familiar graphic design, and thus their Instagram feed was inconsistent and lacked a sense of design direction. I advised the team to overhaul their existing instagram feed design, to have a more cohesive colour scheme, font family, and design layout for each post.



This included coming up with a new colour scheme for the brand, as well as updating their logo to a simple monochromatic colour that could be easily changed out to match the colours on each post.




Some existing posts were also done in handwriting, which in some cases could work, but in this instance came across as amateur. I used such a post as an example of how the simple use of a consistent font family would give the same illustration of the profile a much more professional look.


I also introduced the layout that would accompany each post on the feed, with the new stylised monochromatic logo on the top left, the episode number on the bottom left, and the handle @somethingprivatepod on the bottom right. This was to be present on every frame of the Instagram post, so that if users were to share the post on their Instagram stories, the handle and episode title would quickly tell others where, and which podcast episode, the relevant post was taken from.



This also included a redesign of their other posts, which included

  • Episode Promotionals, featuring the profile that week with a quick liner on what the episode will focus on;

  • Waveform Animation, which is a video that plays around 30 seconds of that week's podcast for users to listen in on, directing them to listen to the full episode;

  • Quote Of The Week, which is a motivational quote that centres around women and that week's topic for the podcast, and;

  • Episode Call to Action, which directs users to the channels upon which they can listen to the latest episode.





In this simple yet elegant solution, the team was quickly able to adapt these changes to the Instagram feed.
